Vessel Closing
A controlled sequence for documents, funds, delivery and post-closing filings.
A good closing is a coordinated exchange, not just a wire. The parties should agree a written checklist that ties each condition to a document, responsible person and release instruction.
Before the release call
Confirm parties, authority, funds, title diligence, insurance, releases, delivery condition and final statements. Resolve discrepancies in account names and instructions through independently verified contacts, not a changed email alone.
Prepare the bill of sale, mortgage releases, acceptance or delivery certificate, registry applications, broker instructions and a signed closing statement.
Deliver, record and archive
The release sequence should state when money is disbursed, when signed documents are released, and when possession and risk pass. Record who authorized each action.
After closing, file registry documents, update insurance and operating records, and provide the parties an organized closing package. Confirm any undertakings that survive delivery.
Buyer checklist
- Use a responsibility-based closing checklist.
- Verify wire instructions independently.
- Confirm all conditions, releases and signatures.
- Document fund, document and possession release order.
- File registrations and archive the complete package.
